Sixty-three years after the import of slaves into the metropolis was banned, on a former estate in the middle of the Alentejo, a family of descendants of freed slaves made their former owners' home their own. One gray day, a young woman appears at the door who turns out to be the widow of Rômulo Bensaude, who, having fled the Brazilian colonies, comes there to seek refuge and a new life. A story of collective liberation, but also of the individual prison in which young Cândida lives with her colonial past. Thus begins a struggle between past and present, to understand who truly owns the property of O Cicômero.
