Meet Alan At Highclere Castle

Highclere Castle, Newbury, Berks.

BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine invites you to a special event at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, famously known as the ‘real’ Downton Abbey. If you love this classic period drama and are eagerly anticipating the new film in September, this is your chance to experience its enchanting setting alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Lady Carnarvon.

Begin your day with a warm welcome from the GW Magazine team. The Countess of Carnarvon will then share the captivating history of her family home, unveiling the secrets and heritage of Highclere Castle’s stunning gardens. Alan Titchmarsh will join her, entertaining you with stories from his distinguished career and presenting an engaging talk on ‘Why we garden the way we do,’ followed by an interactive Q&A session.

Next, embark on a guided tour of the magnificent state rooms, bedrooms, and vistas that made Highclere Castle the perfect backdrop for Downton Abbey. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the Egyptian Exhibition.

Recharge with a delicious light lunch before enjoying free time to wander through the beautiful gardens and arboretum.
